Three Oskaloosa girls have qualified for next week’s State High School track meet. Maleah Walker won the 200 meters and placed second in both the long jump and 100 meters in Thursday’s (5/12) Class 3A qualifying meet at Bondurant-Farrar. In the process, the junior set school records in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, three-quarters of an inch…..and the 200 with a time of 25.96 seconds. The Indians’ Faith DeRonde placed second in the shot put and discus to qualify for State and Jordan Czerwinski placed second in the 400 hurdles to advance to State. The top two in each event qualify for State…plus the next eight statewide in each event. Because the qualifier in LeMars was postponed Thursday, the full list of qualifiers is still up in the air.
Oskaloosa’s boys didn’t have any automatic qualifiers from Thursday’s meet. But the Indians’ Patrick DeRonde placed third in the 3200 meters and the Osky distance medley relay team of Tatum Westercamp, Colin Snitker, Waylon Bolibaugh and Patrick DeRonde also placed third.
Elsewhere in high school track, Ottumwa’s Mason Farrington qualifies for the 4A boys’ State track meet in the 400 meters and as part of the Bulldogs’ sprint medley relay team. And we’re still awaiting results from Thursday’s 2A qualifying meets at EBF and PCM and the 1A qualifiers at Sigourney and Wayne.
