Pella earned his and hers Little Hawkeye Conference tennis titles Wednesday (5/4), with the Dutch taking most of the individual prizes, too. In the Boys’ Conference meet at Indianola, Pella finished in first place, with Grinnell second, Newton fifth, followed by Pella Christian and Oskaloosa. Individually, Grinnell’s Calvin Jaworski won the number one singles title—one day after performing in the Little Hawkeye Conference track meet. Pella’s Cashen Thompson won second singles; the Dutch team of Caleb Briggs and Jack Briggs won first doubles; and Pella’s Cameron Rowe and Beau Bush won second doubles. Oskaloosa’s Khydin Yang was sixth in first singles, Andrew Quang fifth in second singles; the Indians’ team of Caleb Opheim and Zach Fee was sixth in first doubles and Myles Strait and Jarrett Czerwinski were sixth in second doubles.
At the Little Hawkeye Conference girls’ Conference meet in Grinnell, Pella won the team title with Newton and Pella Christian tied for fourth place, Oskaloosa sixth and Grinnell seventh. Individually, Pella’s Emily Blom won first singles…with teammate Alloree Else the second singles champion. Meanwhile, Pella Christian’s Katy Roose and Claire Vandermolen won first doubles, defeating Oskaloosa’s Lucy Roach and Presley Blommers in the title match. And Pella’s Claire Smock and Lily Van Dusseldorp won second doubles. In other Oskaloosa results, Aubree Blanco was fifth in first singles, Haruna Mori was sixth at second singles, and the Indians’ Autumn DeRonde and Abby Drost placed sixth in second doubles.
