Oskaloosa’s boys’ golf team finished third out of seven teams at Monday’s (5/2) Grinnell Invitational at Grinnell College. The Indians’ 323 score was their lowest of the season. Individually, Johnathan Terpstra shot 76 to finish in fifth place, while Keaton Flaherty had his best ever round with a 79 that tied him for sixth—and he did it on his birthday! Weather permitting, the Oskaloosa boys will be back on the links Tuesday (5/3) at Bos Landen in Pella at a meet hosted by Pella Christian.
EBF’s girls’ track team came in fourth at Monday’s meet at Van Buren County. The Rockets had first place finishes from Lizzy Van Utrecht in the 400 meters, Molly Shafer in the 100 hurdles, Kate Shafer in the 400 hurdles and the 4 by 400 relay team of Caroline Van Utrecht, Molly Shafer, Kate Shafer and Lizzy Van Utrecht.
Switching to college sports, William Penn’s softball team split a doubleheader with Mount Mercy Monday in Oskaloosa. Mount Mercy won the first game 7-1, then the Statesmen took the nightcap 3-2 as Kiana Young’s pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh brought in the winning run. Next up for the Statesmen is the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament, which starts Thursday (5/5) in Cedar Rapids.
Tuesday is Parents Appreciation Night for the Oskaloosa boys’ soccer team as they host Indianola. There will be a tailgate from 5 to 6pm on the west side of the Drost Field parking lot. The JV game starts at 5:30 and the varsity game at 7. Also on Tuesday, Oskaloosa’s girls play at Indianola.
