A Sunday (4/10) sweep for the William Penn baseball team. The Statesmen won both games of a doubleheader over Culver-Stockton in Oskaloosa. William Penn won the first game 4-3, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of a Culver-Stockton error. Then in game two, the Statesmen scored seven runs in the first inning on their way to an 8-7 win. Tim Jean had three hits for the Statesmen in that second game. William Penn’s baseball team is now 8-12 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 19-15 overall. The Statesmen are off until Friday (4/15), when they play a doubleheader at Peru State.
The Statesmen softball team couldn’t get any offense going as they lost a doubleheader to Evangel Sunday in Oskaloosa. Evangel won 10-0 and 9-0, with the Statesmen managing a total of five hits in the two games. The Statesmen are now 6-8 in the Conference and 13-15 overall. Monday afternoon (4/11), the Statesmen host Peru State in a doubleheader.
William Penn’s men’s and women’s track teams did well at Saturday’s (4/9) Central Invitational in Pella. The Statesmen men were second out of seven teams, with the women third out of seven teams. Winning first place for the Statesmen men were Kenneth Bolton III in the 800 meters and Justin Moeller in the triple jump. On the women’s side, Abigaille Batu-Tiako took first in two events: the long jump and triple jump. Raven Williams took first in the 400, Alexandra Rose the 100 and Phoebe Burt in the discus. The Statesmen track teams will host their invitational Thursday and Friday (4/14 & 15) at Statesmen Community Stadium.
