North Mahaska’s trip to the State 1A Boys’ Basketball Tournament didn’t last very long. Second ranked North Linn defeated the Warhawks 89-43 in Monday’s (3/7) quarterfinals at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. North Linn’s defensive pressure forced North Mahaska into 26 turnovers…which were converted into 36 points. Warhawks’ Coach Seth Streebin talked about that press.
“That press is just as advertised. It’s one of those things you can work and try and prepare for all week long, really. It’s just a different animal; their speed is something else. We tried our best, I mean, we went out there and we competed. We gave it our best effort, but that press gave us some fits, for sure.”
Dylan Kurt had 19 points for North Linn, who are now 25-1 on the year and will play St. Mary’s of Remsen in the 1A semifinals Wednesday night (3/9). Lane Harmon had ten points for North Mahaska. The Warhawks finished with a 20-6 record.
In Class 2A Boys’ State Basketball Monday, Pella Christian advanced to the semifinals with a 69-62 victory over Roland-Story. Pella Christian had eagle-eye shooting, making 52 percent of their shots. Levi Schelhaus scored 23 points for the Eagles….with teammate Eric Mulder adding 18 points and 20 rebounds. Pella Christian improves to 19-6 on the year.
