The Warhawks overcame a seven point deficit after three quarters to defeat Martensdale-St. Mary’s 46-39 Wednesday night (2/23) at Pella Christian to win the Class 1A Region 7 championship. North Mahaska Coach L.E. Moore talks about his team.
“These senior girls, I’m so proud of them. We had some girls grow up tonight. We started out a little rough and they continued to get better and better as the game went on. I’m proud of them.”
Layla Hargis scored eight of her team high 18 points in the fourth quarter for North Mahaska…and the Warhawks made 12 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter comeback. North Mahaska will take a 23-1 record into the Class 1A State Tournament next Wednesday (3/2)…..when they face two-time defending state champions Newell-Fonda. That game will tip off at 1:30 next Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
