Sigourney-Keota’s football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday (11/5). Dike-New Hartford beat the Cobras 38-14 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A football playoffs in Dike. Jacob Stockdale passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolverines. Senior Cade Molyneux rushed for 128 yards and both Sigourney-Keota touchdowns. The Cobras finish the year with a 10-1 record; Dike-New Hartford will play in the 1A semifinals Friday (11/12) at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
Switching to college football, Saturday (11/6) was a record-breaking day and a losing streak-breaking day for William Penn…as the Statesmen defeated Clarke 28-17 in Dubuque, ending a six game losing streak. Statesmen running back Ben Sherman became the school’s all-time leading rusher as he ran for 243 yards and a touchdown. Sherman broke the career rushing record set by James Jackson from 2003-2006 of 3709 yards. He also tied another school record with a 92 yard touchdown run. The Statesmen are now 2-8 on the year and 1-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s North Division. William Penn wraps up its season Saturday afternoon (11/13) against Graceland at Statesmen Community Stadium.
