The Oskaloosa High football team is off to a 3-0 start after beating Burlington 24-19 Friday (9/10) at Statesmen Community Stadium. Keaton Flaherty threw two touchdown passes to Waylon Bolibaugh, Darryl Fane returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score and Dawson Braden kicked a 25 yard field goal for the Indians. Osky coach Brett Doud was pleased with the way his team competed.
“It showed that we can be gutsy and that we can hang in there with a tough team. Man, they hit like crazy. I think that was a very physical game. It just shows that we’ve got some guts and our guys are going to compete. Because there were a lot of moments throughout that game when it wasn’t pretty and we just kept going. And that’s what we’ve got to do. It was good for our guys to play a full game. We needed to play a full four quarters so that they knew that we could do it, that we’re not going to look for excuses and we’re going to do what we need to do to try to get a win. I was proud of our guys. They battled really hard.”
The Indians play at 1-3 Keokuk this coming Friday night (9/17). You can hear that game on KBOE-FM with kickoff at 7:30.
