48 of the top women’s billiard players in the world are in Fairfield for the start of the Women’s Professional Billiard Association Kiwanis Invitational at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center. This is the WPBA’s first event since 2019 because of the pandemic. Kelly Fisher of England talks about the WPBA’s return.
“It feels a bit strange, to be honest with you. Traveling here from the UK yesterday (Tuesday), came on an airplane…it’s all like a little surreal, where before it was just second nature. However, it’s really exciting. I really am excited to be on the table playing a real match.”
Fisher says she would like to see women’s billiards have a higher profile on the sports map.
“The sad part is that pool, billiards, it’s not your golf, it’s not your tennis. And I’d love to see before I retire, or should I say, before I pass away, I would love to see pool creeping up there with the golf and tennis. I don’t see any reason why it can’t.”
Play at the WPBA Kiwanis Invitational starts at 10:30am Thursday (9/9), with competition continuing Friday (9/10) with the semifinals Saturday (9/11) and finals on Sunday (9/12).
