North Mahaska won the South Iowa Cedar League wrestling meet Saturday (1/30). Because of fewer teams taking part, the tournament turned into dual meets…with North Mahaska winning over Lynnville-Sully 39-33 and Colfax-Mingo 44-36. Six Warhawks won their weight classes: 106-Matt German, 120- Paul DeJong, 138- Michael DeJong, 160- Noah Jedlicka, 220- Jakob Clark, and 285- Trace Goemaat.
At the Little Hawkeye Conference wrestling meet Saturday in Newton, Norwalk finished in first place, with Pella third, Grinnell fifth, Oskaloosa sixth and Newton seventh. Leading the way for Oskaloosa were Leland Evans, who finished third at 145 pounds and Garisin Hynick, who also placed third at 152. From Pella, Damion Clark won the title at 113 pounds, with Peyton Ritzert second at 138. Eli Rose of Grinnell took the title at 152 pounds.
And at the Southern Iowa Classic in Fairfield, Ottumwa finished first, followed by PCM, Knoxville and Albia. EBF finished seventh. Albia had two first place finishers in Carter Anderson at 106 and Paul Ballard at 195. EBF had two wrestlers finish second: Tyler Rickard at 160 and Skyler Young at 285.
