State Education Officials say more than 340 Iowa schools have been identified as struggling. The Iowa Department of Education said in a report released Tuesday (12/18) that 34 schools need comprehensive improvement for all students and 307 need targeted support for some student groups. Oskaloosa School Superintendent Paula Wright tells us how Oskaloosa did in that study.
“As a whole district, we are meeting the criteria, but we have a sub-group in each building that is not–that is needing some assistance. For Oskaloosa Elementary, that sub-group is students with disabilities. At the Middle School, the sub-group that’s not meeting the criteria is students with disabilities. And at the High School, it is our low socioeconomic status students, or our students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.”
Wright says she’d also like to see improvement in Oskaloosa High’s graduation rate. The state average is 90.98 percent; Oskaloosa’s graduation rate is 89.66 percent.
