The Oskaloosa Police Department named its Officer of the Year at Monday night’s (12/3) City Council meeting.  Senior Officer Nicholas Landgrebe just celebrated his fourth anniversary as a member of the Department.  Oskaloosa Police Chief Ben Boeke says Landgrebe has gone above and beyond what his job entails.  Boeke gives an example.

“Emily Brown from Main Street just caught him playing catch the other day with some kids. She had driven by and seen kids throwing a football across the street and she had thought ‘That doesn’t seem very safe’ and she went about her business. And when she drove back through, Officer Ament and Officer Landgrebe were playing catch in the proper way with these kids….enjoying their time with them.”

The City Council also gave plaques Monday to City employees who have worked 20 years for the City: Keith Brooks, Cheryl Eklofe, Mark Tennison, Jerry Van Der Pol and Gina McMains.

Also at last night’s Oskaloosa City Council meeting, the Council voted to deny a request to rezone land at 1217 South Market Street.  The zoning change would have allowed a Dollar General Store to be built at that site.
